Thank you so much for your interest in the Evanston Environmental Justice Conversation series and particularly the event on October 12, 2024. We are grateful you took the time to register to receive more information.
Unfortunately, the event for October 12 will be rescheduled. It was brought to the partner organizations' attention that this event was scheduled on Yom Kippur– a very important day for our Jewish neighbors, colleagues, and community. We sincerely regret this oversight, and we apologize for any hurt this caused. We value the wide diversity of our community, and we are committed to nurturing as inclusive an event as possible. We are better together, and we hope you will stay tuned for information about a rescheduled event planned for April 2025.

Environmental Justice Conversation Series

The committee is hosting Alderwoman Maria Hadden who chairs the Chicago City Council's Committee on Environmental Protection and Energy, and we will have a panel of community advocates conversing around our theme of effective partnerships between municipal and community based organizations. Additionally, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning will be with us to discuss ongoing work to create a plan for the three-state region to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The plan will have a specific focus on maximizing benefits for residents in communities disproportionately affected by climate change. At this event, the project team will seek feedback on how the region can accomplish its emissions reduction goals while advancing equity.
It is made possible through a partnership between The Center for the Church and the Black Experience and the Stead Center for Ethics and Values at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and the Evanston/North Shore branch of the NAACP.
