The City of Evanston recognized longtime LWVE member Eleanor Revelle on September 19, 2026, with an honorary street sign. A section of Sheridan Road, just past where it turns west at Lakeside Court, is now Eleanor Revelle Way.  Councilmember Parielle Davis read a proclamation noting Eleanor’s decades of civic and community leadership. As she put it, explaining the long list of contributions cited in the document, “there will be a lot of them because Eleanor has done a lot.”

Due to rain, the gathering moved to the nearby Revelle home for more speeches and refreshments. LWVE Board member Betty Hayford spoke about Eleanor’s extensive service with the League of Women Voters at the local, state, and national levels—as LWVE President, LWVIL President, board member of LWVUS, and more.  She added that Eleanor is still an active member of our local League.

Others talked about Eleanor’s impact on the Evanston Community Foundation, her role as a co-founder and longtime leader of Climate Action Evanston, and her service in City government, including representing the Seventh Ward on the Evanston City Council from 2016-2024. Both Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss and Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita expressed their appreciation for Eleanor as a mentor to them in their own careers.

The final speaker was Eleanor. She recalled that when she moved to Evanston in the 1970s, she valued the active participation of community residents in civic life, and she ended her remarks with a request: “When you meet a new Evanston resident, encourage them to get involved.”
