In February 2025 joining and renewing membership with the League of Women Voters became a standardized national process regardless of which local or state League a member is part of. Below is information about the renewal period, how to join or renew, and how to donate to our local League.
It is important to know that the renewal process uses a “pay-what-you-can” model. Suggested dues are $75.00 per member (with a minimum of $20.00). And there are now only two membership types– Individual and Lifetime.
Renewal Period
Reminding a member to renew is a collaborative process involving both the LWV Member Portal and the local League. Below is a list of the renewal reminders you will receive from the National office:
- All members will receive a renewal reminder email 60 days before their expiration date with renewal instructions. Since LWVE members all have June 30, 2025 renewal dates, your first notices will be coming to you in the month of May from LWVUS (except for any new members joining since February 1, 2025). Many members have probably received a reminder already. You will also receive a second notice 30 days before your expiration date.
- If you do not renew before your expiration date, you will receive another reminder email on your expiration date.
- You will receive a final reminder email 45 days after your expiration date. Then if no payment is made, you will be dropped from the membership list.
How to Renew
All dues will be handled by the national office of the LWV. We expect that most members will renew through the online
LWV Member Portal, following instructions in the email message they receive.
You may also, however, pay your dues by completing a membership
completing a membership join/renew form and mailing it (along with a check) to LWVE at our new address: 909 Davis Street, 2nd floor, Evanston, IL 60201.
Making a Donation to LWVE
If you wish to make a donation to our local League, you may do so through our LWVE website using the PayPal platform. Click on the “
Donate to LWVE” button at the top of our webpages (lwve.org) to get started. (A PayPal account is not required; you may also use this platform to donate with a credit card.) Or, if you prefer not to donate online, you may make a donation the old-fashioned way: Just make out a check to League of Women Voters of Evanston and mail it to LWVE at our new address: 909 Davis Street, 2nd floor, Evanston, IL 60201 .
Adding a Second Member
When you join or renew, you can also join or renew on behalf of a household member. Some important things to note about this process:
- The special category for members of the same household has been discontinued. However, a member joining from the same household as an existing member can choose to pay half of the recommended amount. Or, you can choose to pay the full recommended amount for the second person.
- Each person must have a distinct, separate email address.
- If more than two people in your household want to be members, the others need to join separately.
Emerging Leaders (students)
We encourage interested students to become LWVE members. Just join as an individual member and pay what you can ($20.00 minimum).
