HomeINTERCOM Online July 2025
LETTER FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTs
Dear Members–

Happy Summer!

We, Georgia and Lisa, are excited to serve you, our members, as co-presidents of the League of Women Voters of Evanston for 2025-2026.

First, a shout-out to Michelle Jordan, the previous LWVE president (2023-2025). Our goal is to build on her collaboration with other local Leagues and with the League of Women Voters of Illinois, and on her savvy guidance on how to put LWVE’s best foot forward.

A reminder: We are part of a network of local Leagues— 44 in the state of Illinois— that are part of the Illinois state-level League (LWVIL). The Illinois League is a member of two interstate interleague organizations (ILOs): The Lake Michigan ILO (including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin) and the Upper Mississippi Region ILO (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin). We, the Evanston League, are also part of the Cook County ILO.  And all the state-level Leagues roll up into the national League of Women Voters. Read the July Intercom to learn more about these organizations that you also are a part of.

2025 has already been an especially active year and we expect it to continue that way, with the 9th Congressional District race and a potential mayoral vacancy in Evanston, plus a range of issues facing the new Evanston City Council (including Envision Evanston) and the Skokie Board of Trustees.

We invite you to engage in our League’s work. Below are some of the areas in which more volunteers are welcome:
Voter Services
Observer Corps
Local Programs including Environmental Justice, Envision Evanston, and Climate Change
Event Planning– This Committee is currently making plans for our legislator event for August and exploring activities for later in the year. We especially need help with planning our fundraiser.

Let us know how you want to participate. Reach out to us at President@LWVE.org. We look forward to working with you to Defend Democracy
Best,
Georgia & Lisa

P.S.– Don’t forget to renew your membership if you haven’t already.  More than likely your membership is up for renewal this summer.
